Nick Tatum – Silver Rush 50 & Georgia Death Race

My time with Boundless and with Brad Stahlman has given me a huge boost to my running confidence. I first contacted Boundless in January 2025 to help me train properly for the Silver Rush 50 in Leadville. With the goal being the Leadville 100 the following year. But little did I know that it was just the beginning of my ambitions and running future. I was partnered with Brad Stahlman who I instantly connected with for his calm demeanor and knowledge of training that didn’t come across as intimidating or overwhelming. With him planning my weekly run schedule around a busy home life as well as work I was able to get in invaluable miles that was enjoyable and manageable.

The Silver Rush 50 arrived and we had a plan of action. To start out slow and steady and as the miles added up I would get faster as other people gassed out. It was a great surprise to see him several times on course and for him to offer words of encouragement as well as some hard truths. Coming from Georgia I was not accustomed to the high elevation but with my training and a strong will I was able to follow thru with Brad’s plan and the last few miles of the race saw me pass several people and finish in a respectable 12 hours 20 minutes. And with the Guaranteed Entry through Boundless I was able to get into the Leadville 100 and another year of training and growth with Brad.

The Georgia Death Race is a famous race in the North Georgia mountains that is 74ish miles long with over 16,000 ft of vert/decent. As Brad has me running 50-60 miles a week in preparation for Leadville I felt ready for the race but obviously I had some nerves. Brad called the day before the race to go over my worries and get a game plan together. With tight cutoff and the longest distance I would ever run in a race I had doubts but Brad assured me I was ready and that with my weekly/monthly milage the only thing I would have to worry about it eating and drinking enough. As it turns out he was exactly right. The cutoffs weren’t a factor at all the entire race and I was able to text him off and on throughout the race to give updates. It was really great to see real time encouragement from Brad and other Boundless athletes. With Brad’s treadmill incline workouts, long weekend runs as well as his Goggins runs I was able to start and finish the race with a big smile on my face in a time of 22 hours and 19 minutes.

At the time of writing this, when the Leadville 100 rolls around in August I will have had 140 more days of training under my belt. If I arrive at that start line with the confidence I received from Brad and his style of coaching in preparation for the GDR, I have ZERO DOUBT that I will get the coveted Belt Buckle as I cross that red carpet of the Leadville 100. The only question that I will have is what color belt to wear it with.

In all honesty I can’t say enough good things about Brad Stahlman and Boundless Coaching. They have been a great partner to have in my corner and I truly believe I would not have been able to finish any of the races without their help. I have seen improvements in endurance, race times, recovery time and confidence gained from my training and time with Brad. I really wish I would have went with Boundless sooner.

Thank you for everything and I can’t wait to keep working with Brad on all of my current goals and my future races.
