Michael Aish

Coach

My Name is Michael Aish and running has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. New Zealand born, I was brought up under the guidance and training philosophy of Arthur Lydiard.

After running in college, I signed a professional contract with Nike and was fortunate to travel the world training and racing with some of the best athletes and coaches on the planet and was able to learn and benefit from many different training methodologies and training styles. Through my career as a professional athlete, my travels around the globe racing and working with other highly respected coaches, I have developed my own training philosophy and integrate elements that work and bring results.

I retired from the track and marathon circuit in 2010, but somehow couldn’t keep away and it wasn’t long before I signed another contract with Mizuno to help develop a new trail shoe. Between 2012 and 2016 I competed in all of the Leadville Race Series races with the highlights being a second place finish in the 100 Run and a second place finish in the Leadman event.

Coaching has always been a part of my career. As I have evolved over the years, I have tested out ideas on myself before passing them along to other athletes. While I am proud to recognize that I have played a role in the running success of my former athletes, the element that I take the most pride in is that I have a solid record of keeping athletes healthy and passionate about the sport. I aim to provide athletes with the knowledge and experience that they can go on to use when our coaching relationship comes to an end.

Currently I live in Conifer, Colorado with my wife, two kids, and two dogs. I still love to run most days and be out in the mountains as much as possible. However, these days I run without a watch or an emphasis on training and am more content to focus on fitness and mental wellbeing…… Plus Arthur Lydiard once told me “no athlete will respect a coach that can rest a stopwatch on his gut”.
